Support Estefania Hinojosa
For the past six years, our daughter Estefania’s life has revolved around volleyball. She started playing in 7th grade and has not stopped since. She excelled during club and eighth grade and was determined to practice so much because she wanted to make the varsity team as a freshman. She did! Her high school volleyball career started with a bang as she was named a starter as a freshman. She continued to improve year after year and reach a Sharyland High School’s (Mission, Texas) record with over 1000 kills in her career this season as her senior year.
During her freshman and sophomore years she represented the state of Texas in a national tournament in Florida. She was invited to participate in the Team USA National High Performance program that the U.S. Olympic coaches run. Estefania attended several national tournaments with her club and aspires to play in the next level.
On October 16, 2018, Estefania’s volleyball career to a drastic turn as she jumped and killed the ball. She landed and her knee buckled inward. The gym was silent as our baby laid in the floor. MRI tests revealed that she had torn her ACL and MCL. According to the doctor who performed the surgery to reconstruct her ligaments, this is a career threating injury. Estefania was devastated to hear this news. She was ready for high school playoffs and club season where several university coaches had told her that they wanted to see her in live action. Estefania continues to feel pain in her knee following surgery, but she hurts even more in her heart that she will not be able to perform with her teammates.
We began to research possible treatment and therapy options that could help Estefania’s healing and recovery process and discovered the benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). We learned that HBOT has shown great success in treating athletes with sports injuries, from acute injury to muscle contusions and ankle sprains. It is also used in the treatment of joint, ligament, and tendon injuries with the main aim of reducing recovery time. We believe that this therapy would help Estefania significantly and could aid in her recovery process to get back to the level she wants in volleyball. We learned there is a non-profit facility in Northwest Ohio called Sara’s Garden that provides Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and has great success treating individuals with sports-related injuries.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Estafania’s condition is only $150 per treatment at Sara’s Garden (as opposed to $1,500-2,500 per treatment at a hospital). Unfortunately, in the United States insurance companies do not recognize HBOT as being therapeutic for the treatment of sports injuries and will therefore not cover the cost of the treatments. Since our plan is for her to receive between 20-40 HBOT treatments that cost adds up quickly. We could really use your help!
If you could assist us with the cost (or even just part of the cost) of a single $150 treatment it would help reduce our overall expenses greatly. 100% of the funds donated will go into an account in Estafania’s name and will be used for her treatments. Any contribution made would be considered a tax-deductible donation as Sara’s Garden is a 501(c)(3) non-profit facility. Checks can be made out to Sara’s Garden with Estafania’s name on a sheet of paper accompanying the check. Please do NOT write her name directly on the check. You can also make donations online via credit card by clicking on the button below.
Thank you so much for considering to support Estafania’s treatments at Sara’s Garden!
