Support Gabe Lorenz
Tectal Glioma. Strange words that we had never heard before. When our son Gabe was seven, we were spending the winter in Indiana with family. He began experiencing extreme headaches. It was soon discovered that he had a tumor in his brain. A tectal glioma is a low-grade, slow-growing brain tumor in the tectum, the roof of the brain stem. The tumor had caused hydrocephalus which required the placement of a shunt. Soon after, we returned to our home in Colorado. All was well until a few weeks later when the shunt failed. We rushed Gabe to a hospital in Denver. There an Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy was performed.
Gabe is now eleven years old. He enjoys science, in particular, the study of circuit boards and outer space. He also enjoys old cars, animals, and insects. Every year he raises Monarch butterflies. He enjoys time spent playing with his three younger brothers, especially outside riding bikes or jumping on the trampoline.
Gabe has many challenges due to the tectal glioma. These challenges include: growth, slow processing, easily agitated and angered, can’t tolerate large crowds and loud noises, struggles in school, difficulty sleeping, oral/eating problems, stuttering, etc.
We first heard about Sara’s Garden through friends of ours who received great help with their daughter there. We are hopeful and excited at the thought of helping Gabe through oxygen therapy and we want to give him the best chance of a healthy and happy life as he grows.
Unfortunately, in the United States insurance will often not reimburse for HBOT treatments. That is why we could really use your help. HBOT at Sara’s Garden is only $100.00 – $150.00 per treatment depending on the condition being treated. However, since the plan is for Gabe to receive at least 40 HBOT treatments, the costs add up quickly.
If you could assist us with the cost (or even just part of the cost) of a single HBOT treatment, it would help reduce our overall expenses greatly. 100% of the funds received go into an account in Gabe’s name and will be used for his treatments and services. Any contribution made would be considered a tax-deductible donation as Sara’s Garden is a 501(c)(3) non-profit facility. Checks can be made out to Sara’s Garden with Gabe Lorenz written on a sheet of paper accompanying the check. Please do NOT write his name directly on the check. You can also donate online via credit card by clicking on the “donate now” button below.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Gabe and considering to help us!
