I have always heard how awful the shingles virus was. Unfortunately, I found out just how true that was for myself in April 2025. In my case, the shingles virus affected the right side of my face and ear. I started to have blurred vision, vertigo and fell 5 times.

Six months later, after an MRI of my brain was performed, a neurologist diagnosed me with Multiple Sclerosis. The shingles virus continued to make my ear painful and plugged and progressed my MS symptoms rapidly. I am now wheelchair bound, have slurred speech, and my fine motor control skills are gone. My husband had to stop work to take care of me. This has been a huge hardship on both of us.

I received a ray of hope when my neighbor told us about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) at Sara’s Garden in Wauseon, Ohio. Her son with autism had received HBOT and it helped him greatly. HBOT has been shown to reduce symptoms and slow the progression of conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis. HBOT accelerates the formation of blood vessels and nerve endings, reduces inflammation and swelling, and increases the production of stem cells.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is also an emerging complementary treatment for shingles. When used alongside standard antivirals, it saturates the blood plasma with pure oxygen. This can accelerate blister healing, reduce inflammation in affected nerve tissues, alleviate acute pain, and lower the risk of post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN). While HBOT is considered an off-label treatment for shingles and Multiple Sclerosis in the United States and not standard first-line therapy, research and clinical experiences have shown significant benefits.

Even though Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has been very successful in treating individuals with shingles and MS, in the United States it is not recognized as being therapeutic for the treatment of these conditions and is therefore not covered by insurance. That is why we could really use your help. Diane’s treatments of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy are only $150 per treatment at Sara’s Garden (as opposed to $1,500-2,500 per treatment at a hospital). However, since our plan is for her to receive at least 40 HBOT treatments that cost adds up quickly.

If you could assist us with the cost (or even just a small part of the cost) of a single $150 treatment it would help reduce our overall expenses greatly. 100% of the funds received go into an account in Diane’s name and will be used for her treatments. Any contribution made would be considered a tax-deductible donation as Sara’s Garden is a 501(c)(3) non-profit facility. Checks can be made out to Sara’s Garden with Diane’s name on a sheet of paper accompanying the check. Please do NOT write her name directly on the check. You can also donate online via credit card by clicking on the DONATE NOW button below.

Thank you so much for your consideration in sponsoring Diane’s treatments at Sara’s Garden. Your kindness is appreciated more than words could ever express.
