Support Silas Johnson

Dear family, friends and supporters,

As many of you know, the time leading up to the birth of my son Silas was very scary. At all of my checkups, his heart rate would be normal and then drop. Doctors said he was pulling and sitting on the umbilical cord causing this to happen. To be safe, I was admitted into the hospital about a month before Silas entered the world on February 6, 2018. He was born exactly 1 month early. Our family stayed in the NICU for 2 days before finally being able to all come home together.

Early on, everything was perfect. Silas was meeting all of his developmental milestones. Unfortunately, from the time Silas was 2-3 years old, things began to change. He wasn’t talking or making eye contact. We started spending a lot of time at doctor visits having Silas tested as he was missing important milestones. He was ultimately diagnosed with Autism.

Months before Silas received the diagnosis of Autism, our doctors recommended that we get him into Occupational and Speech Therapy sessions. Ever since that time, we have been searching for a good therapy school for Silas. That has been a difficult task for us as most schools that we found were too far away or had year-long waiting lists. When we finally found New Horizons Academy at Sara’s Garden we were thrilled. We were so excited after our tour and Silas seems very interested to start school there.

We would love for Silas to attend summer camp at Sara’s Garden this year for intervention services. This month-long camp experience is tailored to Silas’ needs and will not only help him to work towards increased independence, it will also keep the regression of skills that typically occurs over the summer months at bay. We know that all of the therapy he can get will ultimately help him succeed in the future and that’s what we hope for so very much! Silas is such a sweet, loving little boy and truly is the light of our life.

Our goal is for Silas to receive Autism Intervention, Sensory Integration, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy services at Sara’s Garden this summer. These summer camp therapy services equate out to be only $35 per hour at Sara’s Garden as opposed to $100-200 per hour at a clinic. However, because he will be receiving these services 4 hours a day for an entire month, the total cost of this summer camp is $2,800, which is far outside of our budget, especially with all of the medical costs we already have building up. Unfortunately, these summer services are also not covered by insurance. We could use your help.

If you could assist us with the cost of these summer therapy services it would help reduce our overall expenses greatly. 100% of the funds received go into an account in Silas’ name and will be used for his intervention services. Any contribution made would be considered a tax-deductible donation as Sara’s Garden is a 501(c)(3) non-profit facility. Checks can be made out to Sara’s Garden with Silas’ name on a sheet of paper accompanying the check. Please do NOT write his name directly on the check. You can also donate online via credit card by clicking on the DONATE NOW button below.

Thank you for considering to support Silas.

Sincerely, The Johnsons
